    What a UK VAT invoice usually shows

    HMRC expects a full VAT invoice to show a unique invoice number, your name, address and VAT registration number, the customer's name and address, the invoice date and tax point (time of supply), a description of goods or services, the net amount, rate and amount of VAT for each rate, and the total payable.

    Standard, reduced and zero rates

    Most goods and services are at the 20% standard rate, some such as domestic energy at 5%, and others such as most children's clothes and books at 0%. Set the rate on each line and the summary groups them.

    Reverse charge and checks

    Some supplies, such as certain construction services, use the domestic reverse charge. Switch it on under line options to zero-rate the VAT. This tool does not verify that a rate or scheme is correct for your supply, so confirm with HMRC guidance or an accountant.
