    What the ATO expects

    For sales over $82.50 including GST, a tax invoice must state that it is a 'tax invoice', the seller's identity and ABN, the date, a description of what was sold, the quantity and price, and the GST amount or a statement that the total includes GST. For sales of $1,000 or more, the buyer's identity or ABN is also required.

    GST-free and input-taxed

    Some supplies, such as basic food and certain exports, are GST-free. Set that line to 0%. Input-taxed supplies, like residential rent, are different and not covered by a tax invoice.
