    What a delivery note is for

    A delivery note travels with the goods and tells the recipient exactly what to expect. The recipient checks quantities against it and signs, which gives both sides a record if something is missing or damaged.

    Delivery note, packing slip or invoice?

    A packing slip and a delivery note are usually the same thing: a list of items without prices. An invoice is the separate request for payment. Keeping prices off the delivery note is useful when goods are handled by third parties.

    Tips for fewer disputes

    Number every delivery note, quote the customer's order number, count packages, and ask the recipient to note any shortage before signing. Keep the signed copy with the invoice.
