Estimate

An approximate price before the scope is fixed. It can change, and should say so.

Quotation

A fixed price offer valid until a stated date. If the client accepts, you are expected to deliver at that price.

Proforma invoice

A preliminary invoice sent before goods ship or work starts, often for advance payment or customs. It is not a demand for payment in the accounting sense.

Invoice and receipt

An invoice requests payment for goods or services supplied. A receipt confirms that payment was received. A credit note reduces an invoice after the fact. This guide is general information, not legal or tax advice. Requirements change, so check with your tax authority or an accountant.
